Ingredients and their role

To prepare this quick bread, you only need simple ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen. However, each one plays a specific role in the success of the recipe.

  • 2 cups   all-purpose flour  (≈ 250 g)
    Flour is the foundation of bread. It provides structure and hold. All-purpose flour is ideal, but you can experiment with semi-whole wheat flour for more fiber, or spelt flour for a rustic flavor.

  • 1 tablespoon of   baking powder.
    This is the secret to this recipe: baking powder works immediately when heated, allowing for instant rising without any resting time. Unlike baker’s yeast, it doesn’t require fermentation.

    Flour mixture
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
    Salt balances the flavors and prevents a bland taste. It also plays a role in the texture of the bread.

  • 1 tablespoon of sugar.
    The sugar is not just there for sweetness: it promotes a beautiful golden color of the crust during baking.

  • 180 ml of milk (or plant-based milk).
    The milk makes the crumb soft and slightly richer. You can replace it with almond milk, soy milk, or even water for a lighter version.

  • 60 ml of olive oil or melted butter.
    The oil adds moisture and a lovely creaminess. The butter, on the other hand, offers a richer and slightly sweet flavor.
